Doğan Gürpınar

Doğan Gürpınar is an associate professor at the Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ). He is a historian specialized in the late Ottoman and contemporary Turkish historiography, thought, and ideas. He is interested in ideologies and mental structures prevailing in Turkey probing them in a continuum in the course of the making of modern Turkey. His interest in conspiracy theories also stemmed from his studies in the manifestations of Turkish nationalism deeply entrenched in conspiratorial minds. He published extensively on the trajectories of contemporary Turkish ideologies, i.e. Kemalism, socialism, nationalism, and liberalism.

He published two books in English: Ottoman Imperial Diplomacy (I.B. Tauris, 2014) and Ottoman/Turkish Visions of the Nation, 1860–1950 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). He published a book on Turkish conspiracy theories in Turkish (Komplolar Kitabı [Book of Conspiracies], Doğan Kitap, 2014) besides his articles published in English in various journals.
